WHAT IS
PHYSICAL THERAPY?
Physical therapy is a dynamic profession with a theoretical and scientific base that allows for widespread clinical applications in the restoration, maintenance, and promotion of optimal physical function. Physical therapists (PTs) are movement and rehabilitation experts who optimize quality of life through prescribed exercise, manual treatment techniques, modalities and patient education.
Your physical therapist will perform a thorough examination and develop an individualized plan including treatment techniques to promote the ability to move, reduce pain, restore function, and prevent disability that may result from acute or chronic injuries, diseases, or conditions. In addition, your physical therapist will work with you to further prevent the loss of mobility before it occurs by developing/transitioning to a fitness and wellness-oriented program to promote healthier and more active lifestyles long term.
What to expect:
Your will be scheduled for an initial evaluation where your physical therapist will:
-
obtain a thorough medical history
-
conduct a systems review
-
perform tests and measures to identify potential and existing problems
Your therapist will then establish a diagnosis, prognosis, and plan of care addressing the observable deficits and patient goals. Throughout the course of treatment, your therapist will be re-evaluating you and modifying your interventions accordingly to ensure optimal progress, return to full function and successful discharge to a home exercise program.
